Exploring Mexican Treasures Through Conservation

Hidden Horizons MX was created in coordination with Campamento Tortuguero Mayto (EcoMayto AC) to highlight the importance of international engagement on Mexican shores.

Our main focus is to demonstrate the intricate details of wildlife conservation while engaging with local communities. By offering International volunteering opportunities, scientific exchange programs and group expeditions along the mountain ranges and coastal paths of Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco, we aim for all participants to learn, observe and fall in love with Conservation Biology the way that we did, while exploring Mexican culture.

Meet our team

An amazing friendship originating from sea turtle conservation.
  • Founder & Director

Eliza first fell in love with Mexico in 2015, when she spent a summer volunteering at Eco Mayto before heading to University in the UK. She returned each consecutive summer afterwards in which eventually, in 2018 she became part of the hawksbill sea turtle research team. A year later, in 2019, she traveled to EcoMayto for a whole year, to study hawksbills for her university dissertation research. Eliza has stayed in Mexico ever since, and graduated in 2021 with a BSc (Hons) in Ecology and Wildlife Conservation.

  • Founder & Director

Mexican biologist that fell in love with Mayto’s sunsets back in 2018, when he was a second year student at Universidad de Guadalajara (class of 2021). Since then, he has collaborated with EcoMayto by coordinating the summer and winter volunteer programs, becoming part of the hawksbill sea turtle research team, managing the camp’s social media, and becoming a full-time tortuguero during the 2020 pandemic. Additionally to his experience at EcoMayto, Sebastian has experience working with other wildlife protection programs in Mexico and, currently, in Costa Rica (Tortugas Preciosas de Osa and Costa Rican Alliance for Sea Turtle Conservation & Science)
